I developed the classic tale “Miss Rumphius” for the event. Everyone was, at least, as silly as children, and really got into character. As for Miss Rumphius... what an excellent story! If you don’t know it.. look it up, in the children’s section of course!

I loved Miss Rumphius so much that I’m adding the story to a program for UMass Amherst tomorrow morn.

Puppetry Workshops, Southbridge MA.
For the last week of the month, I plunged into puppet production with two elementary aged groups in a beautiful old theater in Southbridge. It was a week of flying fabric, papier mache and imagination! We closed the week with two splendid performances in the theater. Click HERE for a brief photo essay.

New Britian Museum of American Art. Musical Instruments.
Every Thursday I met we a group of 8 - 12 year olds to create a bunch of instruments and songs. We started with sci- fi shakers, moved on to rhythm sticks, than spent to last two weeks making drums. The balloons for the drum heads were especially appreciated!

An uber library! While I perform at zillions of Libraries, the BPL was a unique experience. Firstly, the size of the place is unlike any other library (by my experience) in the area. To get to the auditorium, we wandered through a massive collection of old objects and papers. At last we came to a lovely 500(ish) seat auditorium with lovely seating, stage, tech et al. The show had around 250 kids, ranging from pre k to 6th graders. The program was my final “Around the Galaxy” show of the summer. My personal highlight was the sound of 250 enthusiastic children screaming (hardly library etiquette!) at the top of their lungs to chase away a fierce dragon!

The first segment of my artist in residency at the New Britain Museum of American Art began with great hooplala! The expected 25 - 30 kids turned into 45 hearty souls. Luckily, they were 45 focused kids whom were excited to make puppets, with parents whom wanted to help! A good time was had by all! Performance video’s can be viewed HERE.
