About Us

Not just a puppet troupe!

........We're married!

For 25 (plus!) years Caravan has followed our goal to delight audiences and to inspire creativity.

Our puppets and programs are designed not just to be relatable to children, but approachable! We purposely use found and household materials in our puppets and often point out to audiences how the puppets are made. We encourage children to create puppets and skits at every performance.

Caravan is truly…

A LABOR OF LOVE!!!

Meet the Team

Jonathan Keezing

Jonathan has directed and operated all aspects of  Caravan Puppets since 1991. He is also an accomplished musician (BA Berklee College Of Music). He has performed nationally and internationally and enjoys mixing  his two artistic disciplins on a regular basis.

Karen Schumer

Karen joined Caravan Puppets in 2013 and has brought with her decades of experience as a visual  artist, musician, and art teacher. Karen has added both depth and a touch of spontaneity to Caravan’s performances and workshops. Karen plays a crucial role in creating and delivering unforgettable experiences that educate, entertain, and engage kids of all ages.

History of Caravan Puppets

At eight, a friend and Jonathan built an ornate puppet stage with three tiers of lights and dimmers. (sorry, no pics). They gave shows for local kids and spent their earnings on candy.  His buddy grew up to be an electrician and Jonathan continued giving puppet shows. They both still like candy.

About a decade ago (my time flies!) Jonathan convinced the unforgettable Karen Schumer to climb aboard the Caravan (he threatened to lay down in front of her car if she tried to go back to work!), adding a whole new element of mirth and mayhem! Karen’s artistic talent and originality has pushed the troupe’s repertoire in new directions.

Caravan’s love of exploring the diversity of humanity has led them to a wide variety of settings, including: pre-schools, elementary schools, libraries, eldercare centers, fairs, festivals, corporate and private events.

Notable performances include Japan’s Iida World Puppet Festival, Boston’s Fourth Of July Celebration, Toronto’s “Askinaz!” Festival, the streets of Jeruselum  and Greenfield’s (MA) Balloon Festival.

Caravan continues to grow and experiment. Shadow puppets and creating a giant spider puppet for a concert event are our current concerns.
